Estate

Estate - Thor Transfer

An estate car is a four‑door passenger vehicle with a long roofline and an extended rear section, giving a much larger, squarer boot area than a saloon. In UK terms it’s essentially a stretched hatchback or saloon designed to carry both people and a lot of luggage, also known as a station wagon in the US.

Design and layout
Long roof and large tailgate that opens with the rear window, creating a wide, tall loading opening.

Boot space is the main focus: the rear is extended and more upright, so taller or bulkier items fit more easily than in a saloon.

Still drives like a normal car, because it is usually just the estate version of a regular hatchback or saloon (e.g. Focus Estate, 3 Series Touring).

Capacity for transfers
Typically seats up to 4 passengers plus the driver, same as a saloon, but with extra luggage capacity.

Many operators rate estates for around 4 large suitcases plus 2 small bags, making them ideal for airport runs, seaport trips and family holidays.

Why use “Estate car” in your fleet
Best choice when customers have extra or bulky luggage (golf clubs, pushchairs, equipment) but don’t need an MPV or minibus.

Popular as family cars and transfer vehicles because they balance comfort, car‑like driving and almost van‑like boot space.
